“His philosophy is simply awesome – A genuine observation and contribution to humanity and our condition. His words are untethered, inspirational, honest and right.” BOB CORBETT

“The Voice and Sound of the East Kimberley……..Proper Deadly!”
LUKE O’SHEA

Taking the best of folk, bluegrass, rock ‘n roll, country and roots, and wrapping it all up with some incredible musicianship and stage presence, Chris Matthews continues his never-ending tour of Australia in 2016/17 after wrapping up a mammoth run to promote his 3rd album “Ten Tales From Ghost Gum”.

Hailing from Kununurra in North West WA, one of the most isolated, hottest and sparsely populated places in the world, Chris Matthews is one of our country’s most unique songwriters and performers, carrying on the ancient tradition of singing up country, the people, the places, spaces and everything else in-between. An astounding multi-instrumentalist and jaw dropping live performer – now armed with his 4th Album “Hell West And Crooked” being released on the road this year on the 1st of March.

Matthews is known Australia wide as the resident musician of the stunning East Kimberley El Questro Wilderness Resort – yet Chris spends the remainder of the year playing every pub, club, and festival around Australia and was recently invited to officially open up the 2017 Tamworth Country Music Festival on the enormous main stage in Bicentennial Park. He is also a recent graduate of the 2017 CMAA Songwriting Academy, a sometime member of applauded bluegrass band The Hillbilly Goats, and maintains a touring schedule second to none. After just completing a tour of Tasmania with 7 time Golden Guitar winner Luke O’Shea in February, with whom he will be joining forces with again for a WA tour in May this year, he continues on his merry way across VIC, SA, NSW and Canberra over the next two months.

Well known for his epic 3-4 hour sets, a gargantuan stage presence, and a dexterity on the fretboard that leaves audiences shaking their heads in wonder, as well as a bucketload of energy as a solo artist that puts a lot of bands to shame, Matthews is one heck of a performer. And whether it be on 6 or 12 string acoustic guitars, mandolin, banjo, or lap steel, rest assured – you probably haven’t seen someone play quite as uniquely or as boisterous as he can.

Matthews is one of the most seasoned performers in the land, plying his tunes in every far-flung corner of the country (and then some) over the last decade. As well as touring to every town known to man, and supporting some of the best such as John Butler, Jimmy Barnes, The Hoodoo Gurus, Bernard Fanning, Troy Cassar-Daley, Kasey Chambers, and John Farnham, he’s performed main stage at Gympie, Tamworth, Airlie Beach Fest and the National Folk Festival to name a select few. All the hours on the road and stage have led Matthews to become an astonishing purveyor of his craft, from the smallest front bar gig to the biggest stages in Australia, and he is one is one highly entertaining and energetic live performer.

Learning from the best and also taking his cues from all the great Australian songwriters before him, Matthews has also managed to find something of a rarity in today’s music world – his own voice.
